In brief

Fertility Planning at PULSE TCM is physician-led care that looks for the root pattern behind conception challenges, from Kidney essence deficiency to Blood stasis. Plans may combine acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medication for both partners, and can run alongside IVF or IUI after consultation at our Singapore clinics.

A TCM perspective

Why conception challenges occur, and where care begins

Struggling to conceive naturally, or preparing your body for IVF or IUI? We look past the symptom to the pattern underneath, then build a plan you can sustain through the cycle.

In TCM, fertility reflects the body's internal balance. We commonly read barriers to conception through three lenses:

  • Kidney essence, the foundation

The Kidneys govern reproductive health and constitution. A deficiency in Kidney qi or essence (jing), often from age, stress, or overwork, can affect hormonal balance and egg or sperm quality.

  • Liver qi & Blood stagnation

Stress and emotional tension can disrupt the Liver's role in regulating blood flow. This often shows up as irregular cycles, PCOS, or endometriosis, unsettling the environment for implantation.

  • Cold-dampness in the womb

Diet or environment can trap “cold” in the uterus and constrict blood flow. As the saying goes, “a cold womb cannot hold a seed,” so we focus on warming the womb to create a nurturing environment.

At PULSE, MOH-registered physicians name your pattern in plain language and, where helpful, coordinate with Heartland Rehab and PULSE Allied Health.

For her & for him

Personalised support for every stage

Many fertility challenges start with the body's environment needing support. Switch between pathways for women, for men, and alongside IVF or IUI.

Nurturing the female cycle

We commonly address concerns that shape ovulation, lining quality, and a womb environment ready to hold a pregnancy.

  • Cycle health & regularity

Supporting menstruation and ovulation toward steadier cycles, and easing symptoms linked to PCOS or endometriosis.

  • Egg & endometrial quality

Nurturing egg quality and a healthy uterine lining to help create an environment conducive to implantation.

  • Strengthening the womb

Warming the womb and supporting local blood flow, giving a fertilised egg the best possible chance to thrive.

  • Assisted treatment support

Complementary care alongside IVF and IUI, helping the body respond well throughout the cycle.

Approach to healing

Clinically-informed therapies to support conception

Your physician recommends a combination based on your assessment. Not every visit uses every modality.

Fertility acupuncture at a PULSE TCM clinic

Acupuncture

Fine sterile needles at selected points to help regulate the endocrine system and support blood flow to the reproductive organs.

Acupuncture treatment
Moxibustion warming therapy at PULSE TCM

Moxibustion

Applying gentle heat to “warm the womb,” particularly for cold-type patterns and to support a receptive environment when indicated.

Moxibustion treatment
Therapeutic cupping treatment at PULSE TCM

Therapeutic cupping (ba guan)

Helps resolve deep-seated Blood stagnation and ease tension when that fits your pattern.

Acupuncture is a common foundation. Moxibustion may warm when cold patterns feature. Cupping can ease deep stagnation. Herbal formulas join when your physician builds them into the care journey below.

FAQs

Fertility questions, answered

Natural conception, IVF/IUI support, male fertility, timelines, visit practicals, safety, and booking.

Can TCM help me conceive naturally?

Often, yes, as foundational care rather than a last resort. Physicians work to regulate the cycle (helpful with PCOS), support ovulation, and prepare the body's environment for conception. For complex cases we focus on optimising factors such as egg quality and uterine lining to support your overall chance. Results vary and are discussed at consultation.

Do I have to stop my IVF or IUI treatment to try TCM?

No. We work as a supportive partner alongside Western fertility care. Physicians create personalised plans that sit beside your ART protocol, support the body around egg retrieval and transfer, and help manage stress, with your medical team kept informed.

How does acupuncture support fertility?

Acupuncture stimulates selected points to help regulate the endocrine system, support blood flow to the reproductive organs, and calm the nervous system. That internal calm and circulation can help create a more supportive environment for conception.

Can TCM improve male fertility?

Yes. Male factors are a critical part of the journey. Tailored plans aim to support sperm quality, quantity, and motility by improving overall vitality and blood flow, and by addressing stress and Kidney essence patterns. Suitability is assessed first.

How long does TCM fertility treatment take?

Because TCM works on the root pattern, most patients see the best results with consistent care over about 3 to 6 months. This aligns with the natural follicular cycle as we work to support egg quality and the uterine lining. Many notice earlier improvements in cycle comfort.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

When performed by a licensed, experienced TCM physician, acupuncture is generally safe in pregnancy and may help with nausea (morning sickness), back pain, and fatigue. Physicians select acupoints appropriate for expecting mothers and adjust the plan accordingly.

Are there female TCM physicians for fertility?

Yes. Several experienced female physicians work with fertility, gynaecology, and postpartum care. We understand comfort and privacy matter here and will match you where we can.

Which clinic is my preferred physician at?

Many physicians consult across more than one outlet. Check schedules via online booking, WhatsApp, or phone, and we will help you find a suitable slot.

When can I start to consider TCM?

While many couples seek TCM after 12 months of trying to conceive without success, we often recommend starting earlier as part of proactive 调理: regulating and strengthening the body to support reproductive health and healthy conception. Suitability is assessed at consultation.

How long does the fertility programme take?

Plans vary by person, but a common recommended period is about 3 months, with a minimum of 6 sessions. A consultation helps physicians tailor pacing to your cycle, constitution, and any IVF or IUI timeline.

What do I need to take note of before my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that can be adjusted easily, and remove accessories. We can provide a gown if needed.

What if I am scared of needles and do not wish to undergo acupuncture?

You can discuss alternatives with your physician. Herbal medication or moxibustion may suit your pattern when acupuncture is not preferred. Acupuncture needles are hair-thin (about 0.12–0.30 mm), much finer than typical injection needles. Most patients feel little or no pain; some may notice brief discomfort, dizziness, bruising, or slight bleeding at the insertion site. Tell your physician if you have an alcohol allergy before treatment.

What can I expect during an acupuncture session?

Visits usually begin with a consultation about your health history and concerns. You then rest comfortably while the physician places thin, sterile needles at selected points. Sessions are paced for calm and privacy.

Is acupuncture safe? Does it hurt?

At PULSE, acupuncture is performed by trained, qualified physicians using sterile needles and is generally considered low risk. Most patients do not experience significant pain or side effects. Needles are hair-thin (about 0.12–0.30 mm). Occasional transient discomfort, nausea, dizziness, bruising, or slight bleeding can occur. Notify your physician of alcohol allergies before treatment.

How long does each session take?

Each visit takes up to about 60 minutes, including a detailed consultation and treatment such as acupuncture.

What should I take note of after acupuncture?

Rest and avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day when you can. Your physician will give aftercare advice tailored to your condition.
