Huang Qi and Bai Zhu pork bone soup

黄芪 (Huang Qi, Radix Astragali) and 白术 (Bai Zhu, Rhizoma Atractylodis) with pork bone, ginger, and goji. A kitchen pot when Spleen and Lung Qi run thin.

In brief

Blanch 500 g pork bone, then simmer with two slices of ginger, 15 g Huang Qi, and 15 g Bai Zhu in about five cups of water. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer about 30 minutes. Return to a boil, add half a tablespoon of goji berries and salt to taste. Serves three to four. Ingredients

  • pork bone 500 g
  • ginger 2 slices
  • Astragalus 15 g
    黄芪, Huang Qi, Radix Astragali
  • Atractylodes 15 g
    白术, Bai Zhu, Rhizoma Atractylodis
  • goji berries ½ tablespoon
    枸杞
  • water 5 cups
  • salt to taste
  1. Blanch

    Blanch the pork bone in boiling water, then rinse.

  2. Pot

    Add blanched pork bone, ginger, Huang Qi, and Bai Zhu to a pot. Fill with about five cups of water.

  3. Boil then simmer

    Bring to a boil on high heat. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes.

  4. Finish

    Bring the soup back to a boil. Add goji berries and salt to taste. Serve warm.
