Japanese honeysuckle and wild chrysanthemum tea

Japanese honeysuckle (金银花, Jin Yin Hua) with wild chrysanthemum (野菊花, Ye Ju Hua) and a little rock sugar is a physician-strength cooling pot when heatiness sits with an approaching flu. Stronger and more bitter than white or yellow chrysanthemum kitchen teas.

In brief

In TCM, wild chrysanthemum with Japanese honeysuckle clears heat and toxins when heatiness and flu signs are stacking. Simmer about 20 minutes, then dissolve rock sugar to ease the bitterness. Sip gradually through the day. It is strongly cooling. Do not use it as a standing habit.

  • Simmer, then sweeten. Physician-strength cooling. Only when needed, not every day.

FAQs

Quick questions

Can I drink this tea every day?

No. Wild chrysanthemum is physician-strength cooling. This pot is for stacked heatiness and approaching flu signs, then stop. Daily strong cooling teas can weaken the Spleen and leave bloating or fatigue, especially if you already run cooling.

Is this the same as yellow chrysanthemum honeysuckle tea?

No. Yellow chrysanthemum with honeysuckle, malva nut, mint, and licorice is a milder wind-heat cold brew. This pot uses wild chrysanthemum with honeysuckle and rock sugar, and it runs stronger and more bitter. Use the one that matches the signs in front of you, or ask a physician.

Why add rock sugar?

Rock sugar eases the bitterness of wild chrysanthemum so the pot is easier to finish. It is not a licence to brew a stronger or longer course. Let the liquid cool slightly if you later prefer honey instead.
