Routine

The steps

  1. Zhi Gou (SJ6) · 2 minutes

On the dorsal forearm, about 3 inches (four finger-widths) proximal to the wrist crease, in the depression between the radius and ulna. Circle gently for two minutes. You can also press SJ6 while passing motion when the stool is hard to start.

  2. Shen Men (HT7) · 2 minutes

On the palmar wrist crease, radial to the tendon of flexor carpi ulnaris. Circle gently for two minutes. HT7 is the home-press often used when constipation has lingered.

  3. Clockwise tummy circles · 36 times

Lie on your back. Place one hand above the navel and the other on top. Move both hands together in a light clockwise circle around the navel, 36 times. Useful before sleep or on waking in bed.

  4. Tian Shu (ST25) · 2 minutes

Two cun (about three finger-widths) either side of the navel. Circle each side for two minutes. ST25 sits on the Stomach channel beside the large intestine.

FAQs

Quick questions

Which point should I start with?

SJ6 is the general constipation point, including during a difficult pass. Add HT7 when the pattern has lasted weeks. Use tummy circles and ST25 when the belly feels stuck, and skip both during diarrhoea.

How often can I press these points?

Once or twice a day is a common educational habit. Keep the press kind. If constipation lasts more than a few weeks, or you need laxatives often, book a consult rather than adding more home pressure.
