Find Nei Guan (PC6) on the inner forearm

内关 · Inner Pass sits on the Pericardium meridian, two cun above the palmar wrist crease between two tendons. Used for nausea, anxiety, motion sickness, and chest tightness.

In brief

Nei Guan (内关, PC6) sits two cun above the inner wrist crease, in the hollow between two tendons. Either arm works. Palm up, flex the wrist so the tendons stand out, measure three fingers from the crease, then press firmly with thumb or index finger until you feel a dull ache. Circle one to two minutes. Stop if pain sharpens.

Point guide

Find & press

  1. Palm up, raise the tendons

Rest either forearm palm up. Flex the wrist slightly toward the chest so the two central tendons stand out. Find the major crease where hand meets wrist, then feel those tendons just above it (palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis).

  2. Measure two cun between them

Place index, middle, and ring fingers together (two cun) starting at the crease and moving up between the tendons. PC6 is the centre hollow at that mark, not on the tendons. Chinese cue: 腕掌侧远端横纹上2寸,两肌腱之间.

  3. Press for a dull ache 1–2 minutes

Press firmly with thumb or index finger until a slight dull ache or deep tenderness sits between the tendons. Small circles for one to two minutes. Slow breathing helps when anxiety or nausea is rising. Many anti-nausea wristbands press this same landmark.

  4. Nausea vs stress

For motion sickness or queasiness, keep steady pressure or slow circles on PC6. For stress or chest tightness, add slow breaths while you press. Either arm is fine; switch if one side feels tender.

  5. Stop cues

Ease off if the press feels sharp, numb, or wrong. Mild ache that eases on release is common; sharp pain is a stop signal.

FAQs

Quick questions

Where is the Nei Guan (PC6) acupuncture point?

Palm facing up, flex the wrist slightly so the two central tendons stand out. From the major palmar wrist crease, measure the width of your index, middle, and ring fingers together (two cun) up the forearm between those tendons. PC6 is the tender hollow in the centre. Either arm works.

What is Nei Guan (内关) used for?

Classically on the Pericardium meridian for nausea, anxiety, motion sickness, and chest tightness. Home press is a short habit between visits, not a substitute for urgent chest, panic, or relentless vomiting care.

How do I massage Nei Guan for nausea versus stress?

Same landmark. For nausea or motion sickness, hold steady pressure or slow circles for one to two minutes. For stress or chest tightness, keep the same press and add slow, deep breaths. Dull ache between the tendons is the cue; sharp pain means ease off.

How long should I press Nei Guan, and should it hurt?

Press firmly with thumb or index finger for one to two minutes, with small circles if that feels steadier. A dull ache or deep tenderness between the tendons is the usual cue. Sharp pain, shooting tingling, or numbness means ease off.

How is PC6 different from PC7 (Da Ling)?

Both sit on the Pericardium line of the inner wrist. Nei Guan (PC6) is two cun proximal to the crease, between the two tendons. Da Ling (PC7) sits on the crease itself, in the middle hollow between those same tendons.

Is Nei Guan the same point as anti-nausea wristbands use?

Yes. Many travel or morning-sickness wristbands press on PC6, the hollow between the two tendons about two cun above the inner wrist crease. Ask a physician before new point habits in pregnancy.
